We're excited to partner with Trail Dog & Company on May 8-13, 2026 for this 6 day / 5 night GLAM-PACKING women's retreat!  What exactly is Glam-Packing...?  It's all the excitement of your favorite outdoor adventures combined with the glam of spending the night at a beautiful vacation rental in town!  Just hiking, biking, and outdoor fun with a group of fantastic women followed up with hot showers, cozy beds, and warm, home cooked meals.

Spend the week exploring the beauty of southwest Virginia on an all-inclusive women’s retreat built around adventure, connection, and comfort.  Join a small, spirited group of adventurous women—alongside experienced guides from Wildwood Hiking Co. and Trail Dog & Company—for a week filled with unforgettable day hikes, shared laughter, and meaningful connection.

Explore iconic stretches of the Appalachian Trail, wander the high balds of Grayson Highlands alongside wild ponies, bike the Virginia Creeper Trail, and summit Virginia’s highest peak.  We'll hike approximately 7-10 miles each day and then return each night to a beautiful vacation rental, hot showers, and home cooked meals in the heart of downtown Damascus.  No camping required on this Glam-Packing Trip!  Let us take care of all the meals, lodging, and logistics while you enjoy the adventure!

Trip Highlights:

  • Hike the Appalachian Trail: Explore iconic stretches of the AT near Damascus, taking in the spring wildflowers, rolling terrain, and classic Southern Appalachian scenery.
  • Wild Ponies & High Country Views: Experience the magic of roaming wild ponies, open meadows, rugged rock outcrops, and endless mountain views.
  • Summit Mount Rogers: Hike to the highest peak in Virginia and experience the unique mossy spruce-fir forest that makes this summit so special.
  • Bike the Virginia Creeper Trail: Enjoy a scenic, mostly downhill ride through shady forests, open farmland, and along rushing mountain streams.
  • Go Horseback Riding in the Highlands: Experience the landscape from a new perspective on a guided horseback ride through the mountain backcountry.
  • Glam-Packing: Instead of backpacking, you’ll return each night to a cozy, beautifully appointed vacation rental home in downtown Damascus—perfect for unwinding, sharing stories, and building friendships that last long after the trip ends.
  • Supportive, Women-Only Community: This retreat is intentionally designed to foster connection, empowerment, and the kind of easy camaraderie that grows when women adventure together. With encouragement from two female guides and the energy of a women-only group, you’ll feel supported every step of the way.
Note: Exact trail routes and activities may vary based on weather, trail conditions, and group pace. Your guide will provide a final itinerary and details during the virtual orientation.

Price:

The cost for this trip is $2750 per person for a private room or $2650 for a shared room, which includes a non-refundable deposit of $200.  The deposit is due at the time of booking to secure your spot, and the remainder will be due 90 days before the start of the trip.  You are welcome to pay the full amount at the time of booking, or pay the deposit now and the rest later.

Difficulty Level: Beginner / Novice

This Beginner/Novice hiking trip is considered Moderately Strenuous.  A moderately strenuous hike is considered to be generally challenging for an unconditioned person.  It is suitable for those with some hiking experience on a mix of terrain and elevation gain and loss.  While this trip is great for first time backpackers, you should be comfortable hiking at least 6-10 miles with a weighted day pack on varying terrain.

Daily mileage on this trip ranges from 5 miles to 10 miles, with up to 1,500' of elevation gain.  The terrain on this route is very rocky and rooty, so you should be comfortable hiking on uneven terrain and have good traction on your shoes.  There are some steep inclines and large rock steps, as well as a few log bridge creek crossings.

While we will not be backpacking on this trip, you will be expected to carry your own daypack with snacks and water during the day hikes.  You will receive a detailed packing list after booking, and your guide will discuss what to bring (and what not to bring) during your virtual orientation.

What's Included:

  • Vacation Rental (single occupancy rooms)
  • Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner at AirBnB) and hiking snacks
  • Shuttles to and from trailheads
  • Bike rentals for the Virginia Creeper Trail
  • Guided horseback riding
  • Virtual Orientation and Q&A session with your guide before the trip
  • Expect advice, tips, and planning from two experienced and Wilderness First Responder certified hiking guides

Not Included:

  • Guide gratuity (recommended 15-20% of trip cost)
  • Lodging before/after trip
  • Transportation to and from airports
  • Personal items such as clothing, water bottles, and medications

What to Bring:

Your guide will provide you with a detailed gear checklist before your trip that’s tailored to your trip location and expected weather.  You’ll be expected to bring your own personal items such as clothing, footwear, and medications.  You will also have the opportunity to ask specific gear questions during your Pre-Hike Virtual Orientation with your guide.

  • Hiking Shoes: Comfortable trail shoes or running shoes are recommended over heavy hiking boots for the varied terrain of the Grayson Highlands. Test all footwear at home before the trip!
  • Clothing: Weather-appropriate layers (moisture-wicking base layers, fleece, rain gear), wool hiking socks, and a hat for sun protection.  You may want a separate outfit for walking around town during when we're not hiking.  A washer and dryer are available at the vacation rental
  • Personal Items: Hiking day pack, trekking poles, water bottles or bladder (2-3 liters), sunscreen, and any personal medications.

Meeting Location and Itinerary:

You will be meeting your guides at your vacation rental in downtown Damascus, VA, a charming mountain town known as “Trail Town USA.”  The exact location of the vacation rental will be shared after booking.

We will plan to meet at 3 pm on the first day and depart at 8 am on the final day of the trip. The nearest airport is Tri-Cities Regional Airport (TRI) in Blountville, TN, about a 1-hour drive from Damascus.  Please make your travel arrangements accordingly.
